Welcome to Leukerbad in summer!
Set in a spectacular location under high mountain peaks, Leukerbad was discovered by the Romans many hundreds of years ago. Today it is a popular mountain spa, climatic health and sport resort, all year round.
The major attraction of this friendly village is its healing thermal waters. Three million litres flow daily out of the ground (51 C) into the private and public baths. There are 22 indoor and outdoor pools which represent the largest thermal offer in the European Alps. At the Burgerbad, for example, the visitors will find 11 different pools with temperatures between 28° and 44°. The new attraction is certainly the St. Laurent Alpentherme bath temple, which opened in November 1993. From the outside, the Lindner Alpentherme complex consists of four architectural units, while its interior is divided into three main areas - the medical centre, the gallery and the springs. Besides its thermal indoor and outdoor pool, there is a 25-metre sports pool with normal water and a luxurious Irish-Roman bath.Today, Leukerbad's water attracts all kinds of people.
The wide range of sport facilities available (tennis, minigolf, squash, table tennis, fitness, gymnastics, hiking, guided mountain tours) appeals to more and more visitors as they can discover the pleasures of an active day followed by a relaxing, warm dip. The towering rocks provide protection from the elements. The surrounding mountains offer a large choice of walks. From the Torrent the visitor has a spectacular view over the mountain peaks and the Rhone Valley while the famous historic Gemmi-Pass invites him to walk along its charming «Daubensee» lake.
